Ashtanga(ish) Monday 5-7pm
Rooted in the traditional series taught in Mysore, India by K. Pattabhi Jois, this 2-hour class will teach you the foundations of Surya Namaskara (sun salutations), standing series, primary series, backbending practices, inversions and closing poses. The 'ish' represents the space/freedom to explore and workshop certain aspects of this practice weekly, breaking the form and pace when needed, and modifying asanas to ensure there is an accessible place for everyone to work from.
Classes are designed cumulatively, and drop-ins are discouraged unless students have prior experience in this tradition.
Flow and Low Tuesdays from 7-830pm
The first half of this class will focus on flowing yogic and dancelike movements, inviting the quickening of spring in to break up any winter stagnant energy that is present. During the second half of this class we will settle deeply into ourselves through restorative postures, pranayama (breath work) and meditation. This class will be both gently enlivening and relaxing.
Vinyasa Flow Tuesday & Friday 930-11am
A common translation of vinyasa: 'to place in a special way'
The emphasis of this class is to link breath and movement, and in doing so, cultivate a dynamic, fluid and attentive practice. Unlike many traditions of yoga which follow an order when moving through postures, Vinyasa Flow brings an element of creativity to its sequencing. In this way, each class, while somewhat familiar, will vary depending on the focus and the teacher. We have scheduled this class during the morning time slots as it is an energizing and heating style, intended to move you into your day with increased vitality and clarity. Be prepared to work deeply with the mind-body and delve into postures that include arm balances and inversions.
Foundational Flow Wednesday 5-630pm
Come unwind from your day with this well balanced exploration of the body-mind. In this class we will breakdown movement patterns and investigate alignment and range of motion to honour our body. Expect to be both physically challenged and deeply nourished. Designed to be slightly less vigorous than an Ashtanga or Vinyasa class, Foundational Flow will help you to decompress from the day, and set you up well for a good night's sleep.
Yoga for Men Wednesday 715-830pm
This 8 week course will act a safe and playful space for men curious about the practice of yoga. This is an ideal opportunity to get more comfortable in the yoga studio and acquaint yourself with foundational yoga postures. You will leave feeling longer, more spacious and relaxed.
Course Date: Oct 2nd-Nov 20th
All levels welcome.
Investment: $100/8 classes
Power Vinyasa Thursday 530-7pm
This thoughtfully sequenced class is designed to move you through the dance of being in your body with intelligence and grace. Each week we will work with a different creative movement practice, preparing the body and mind for 'bigger-peak poses.' The intention is to get you moving (and sweating), to engage the mind on skilled action, and to find joy in the practice!!
Community Flow Sunday 10-1130am
Deemed 'Yoga Church' by our regular crew, Sunday Community Flow is a great way to start the day. Usually our busiest class, it's where we really feel the community come together, and our focus is to teach a playful and energizing class. Anything goes, it just depends on who walks through the door. This class is 'shared' meaning that the teacher changes weekly--so it's a great way to get a feel for the variety in teaching styles.
Practices for Embodied Living Sunday 7-9pm
A Monthly Event
Sept 29/Oct 27/Dec 1st
$20 drop-in or two passes
This gathering is an opportunity to shift into stillness, to find comfort in quietude, moving inward, to become increasingly receptive to your inner landscape. When you make the time to find stillness, you connect into your true nature.
How are you feeling in this moment?
How are you feeling in your physical body?
What is the nature of your mental and emotional being right now?
When you create the space to explore your inner landscape, it deepens your understanding of the world around you as well as how you express yourself in it. This is an opportunity to calm the whirling mind and unwind your physical body, being open to life in this moment just as it is.
Through yin-inspired yoga and mindfulness practices, we will awaken our senses and explore the nature of sensations, deepening our receptivity to daily life. Each gathering will include a guided meditation practice, explore sound as a healing modality and conclude with a nourishing, mindfully enjoyed, treat.
