Class Descriptions

Ashtanga(ish)  Monday 5-7pm

Rooted in the traditional series taught in Mysore, India by K. Pattabhi Jois, this 2-hour class will teach you the foundations of Surya Namaskara (sun salutations), standing series, primary series, backbending practices, inversions and closing poses. The 'ish' represents the space/freedom to explore and workshop certain aspects of this practice weekly, breaking the form and pace when needed, and modifying asanas to ensure there is an accessible place for everyone to work from.

Classes are designed cumulatively, and drop-ins are discouraged unless students have prior experience in this tradition.

Gentle Practices  Tuesdays from 7-830pm

In this class we learn how to settle deeply into ourselves.  Restorative yoga postures, pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation and philosophy are integrated into a cohesive relaxation experience designed to tap into your parasympathetic (rest and relaxation) nervous system.  This class is ideal for people who struggle with stress, anxiety or insomnia as well as anyone looking to learn how to relax deeply.

Vinyasa Flow  Tuesdays 930-11am

A common translation of vinyasa: 'to place in a special way'

The emphasis of this class is to link breath and movement, and in doing so, cultivate a dynamic, fluid and attentive practice. Unlike many traditions of yoga which follow an order when moving through postures, Vinyasa Flow brings an element of creativity to its sequencing. In this way, each class, while somewhat familiar, will vary depending on the focus and the teacher. We have scheduled this class during the morning time slots as it is an energizing and heating style, intended to move you into your day with increased vitality and clarity.

Foundational Flow  Wednesday 5-630pm

Come unwind from your day with this well balanced exploration of the body-mind. In this class we will breakdown movement patterns and investigate alignment and range of motion to honour our body. Expect to be both physically challenged and deeply nourished. Designed to be slightly less vigorous than an Ashtanga or Vinyasa class, Foundational Flow will help you to decompress from the day, and set you up well for a good night's sleep.

Yoga for Men  Wednesday 715-830pm

This 4 week introductory course will act a safe and playful starting point for men curious about the practice of yoga. This is an ideal opportunity to get more comfortable in the yoga studio and acquaint yourself with foundational yoga postures. You will leave feeling longer, more spacious and relaxed.

Course Date: April 18-May 9

All levels welcome.
Pre-registration required
Investment: $50/4 classes

Refining the Practice  Thursday 5-645pm

Refinement is defined as ‘improvement or clarification of something by the making of small changes.’ This class will offer many ways to cultivate a deeper understanding of action and connection through the body. In each class we will focus on a family of postures or one peak pose, preparing the body through intelligent sequencing, demonstration, partner work, fascial and movement education.

This class is intended to guide students who wish to deepen their understanding of asana, building on many of the more challenging poses introduced in the Ashtanga series (but not limited to the series).

We will uncover the key ingredients required to stand, forward bend, twist, backbend and invert with confidence and ease. All levels welcome, although some yoga experience is suggested.

Power Vinyasa  Friday 930-11am

This challenging and dynamic class combines elements of the sacred 4 directions, chanting, meditation and pranayama; paired with a Vinyasa Flow style asana practice, and accompanied by uplifting music. This class is intended to provide a challenge, and is well suited to intermediate and advanced practitioners, but not limited to. Be prepared to work deeply with the mind-body and delve into postures that include arm balances and inversions.

Community Flow  Sunday 10-1130am

Deemed 'Yoga Church' by our regular crew, Sunday Community Flow is a great way to start the day. Usually our busiest class, it's where we really feel the community come together, and our focus is to teach a playful and energizing class. Anything goes, it just depends on who walks through the door. This class is 'shared' meaning that the teacher changes weekly--so it's a great way to get a feel for the variety in teaching styles.

Yoga Into Meditation Sunday 730-845pm

A sweet way to wind down at the end of the weekend. This offering will consist of a short flowing asana practice weaving movement and breathwork to aid the physical body and mind into a space of present, calm alertness, before settling into a guided meditation.

This is a 5 week offering running April 8th-May 6th                                                                        Special Pre-Reg Price: $60
