TRE Release Workshop with Meghan Gorosh

Anxious. Stressed out. Overwhelmed.   Exhausted. These words are all too common adjectives to describe how we feel on a daily basis. Life is
stressful, but that reality doesn’t have to control you.

TRE® (tension and trauma releasing exercises) is an innovative approach to managing and mitigating the effects of stress in your body and in your life. Whether we realize it or not, stress is something that impacts every one of us on a daily basis. Our bodies weren’t designed to live with the chronic and sometimes toxic stress that so many of us carry.
In this workshop, you will learn a set of 7 gentle and adaptable exercises that can be modified to support every body type and ability, to elicit an intentional and self controlled therapeutic muscular tremor, deep in the core of the body.
Similar to the way animals shake off stress, this tremor reflex seeks out and gently vibrates open deeply held patterns of tension in the muscle tissue and fascia of the body, while
naturally quieting and re-regulating the nervous system.
The tremor originates in the brain-stem, the part of the brain that regulates autonomic body functions, and does not involve the emotional or thinking brain, so even historic patterns of trauma and stress can be safely and gently released without re-triggering painful memories. Essentially TRE® allows the body to do this processing for us.
TRE® is accessible and easy to learn. Most people find it easy to integrate TRE® into
their lives, and more importantly, derive benefit from it almost immediately. Empower yourself with your own biology, and take your health and wellness into your own hands!

*This workshop is intended to empower participants in a self directed practice of TRE, and is not education on teaching this practice to others*

The Habit of Showing Up: A 3-Hour Writing Exploration with Traci Skuce

Expand your capacity to notice your world by showing up to the page. In this 3-hour workshop, we will escape the tyranny of not-good-enough by shifting our lens and delving into the more inclusive and complex world of seeing and writing. We'll use meditation to ground us into the here-and-now, and then engage in a series of a prompt-based practice to spark and fan our creative fires. There's a synergy and aliveness that comes from writing in a group, and we'll foster this by inviting everyone to read aloud to the group.

No experience necessary! Please bring a notebook and pen. We will be writing and writing and writing.

Investment: $60 ($30 deposit is required)

This process will assist the shifting and healing of long-standing patterns of suffering and unhappiness, as well restore the flow of love and harmony.

Our time together will also explore teachings on the subtle body and how we can strengthen our energetic fields to increase vitality, enhance healthy boundaries and deepen our intuitive capacities.

Coupled with writing, self-inquiry work, and luminous poetry, this retreat promises to stir your senses and help you connect to a rhythm that is naturally yours.

Shiatsu for Stress Relief

Rick VanHassel
Shiatsu for Stress Relief

Join us again to gather and relax, unwind and rejuvenate.

Through the timeless practice of Shiatsu Therapy, Rick Van Hassel - Kinesiologist and Registered Shiatsu Therapist, will facilitate a workshop to ease your spirit and nurture your body.

During this time of year, in autumn, naturally we turn inwards and seek quietude. Meditational, intuitive and bodywork practices all support this innate need to go inwards to restore and reflect.

In our workshop we will engage in partner Shiatsu, using thumbs, fingers and palms to stimulate key Acupressure points that help to relax muscles, and open the meridians and joints. The focus of our time together will be in supporting the body's natural healing mechanisms to decrease the stress response, something that Shiatsu excels at, and bring us towards a more balanced state.

Yes, shoulder and neck work will be highlighted!

No bodywork exerience is required, although the workshop will certainly appeal to existing Practitioners and Beginners alike.

Workshop: Saturday November 11, 2017

Time 1:00-4:00

Investment:  $40 per person or $75 for a pair

Nourish The Root

Nourish The Root

Summer is a whirling dervish spinning in the heat of the sun, sending energy out in all directions. As the season shifts, the spinning slows and we return our attention to the inner life, nourishing the deepest roots of our being.

Nourish the Root is an immersion in embodied meditative movement, and a sinking into the soil of our own soul. The organic sounds of hand drums and the shakuhachi (Japanese flute), played live, will wash over and through us. We will pause, breathe, and assess the conditions. Like a garderner who looks to see what is needed for her garden to survive the coming winter whole and hearty, we will attune to the needs of our bodies, hearts, and minds.

The three hour experience:

In the first half, we begin with slowing the mind to more fully inhabit the body through a somatic vinyasa-like flow sequence that brings awareness, and loving attention to each body part. No yoga experience necessary, this flow sequence is adaptable to every body.

In the second half, we will be joined by the Drunken Rumis, Jesse Gentes and Patrick Desjardins, who will bring their own attention and attunement to the organic process of the group. The breath and heartbeat of their instruments will take us deeper into the slow dance of the embodied soul. They will improvise a sound meditation which will weave us together as movers, breathers, and beings.

For Every Shadow, A Light (For Every Light, A Shadow)

For Every Shadow, A Light
(For Every Light, A Shadow)

Any light that burns hot and bright can't last and will leave darkness as its legacy.  I want your yoga practice to continue to be the sustainable, reasonable solution that warms like a hearth fire:  well managed, nourishing and life giving.

Morning: (10-12)

Balance. Simple, strong standing poses, balances, and weight bearing in the upper body.  Some tips for shoulders and hips.

Afternoon: (2-4)

Radiance.  Backbends, seated forward folds and twists, supine work.  Yoga philosophy in modern and pop contexts; the politics of yoga and the yoga of politics.

Investment: $75

Bio:

I am delighted to return to the valley once again; I've had so many rewarding visits.  I have been guiding bodies in Vancouver since 2003 and like many of your teachers, I've studied several styles of yoga and pretty much just picked the parts that I like from each one.  Like when you're at the farmers market.

I currently teach public classes at YYoga Yaletown and One Yoga For The People in Vancouver.  I also teach private sessions, mentor yoga teachers, and belong to the faculty at the Vancouver School of Yoga.  I have six year old twins, an incredibly gifted artist as a husband, and a neglected yet still prolific garden.
